Sony Revives XM4 Line With New $299 Model and Budget Additions

Sony has introduced a refreshed version of its popular WH-1000XM4 headphones, now branded as the WH-1000XM4C, with a launch price of $299, according to 9to5Google. The announcement also included two more affordable models, the WH-CH730N and WH-CH530, expanding Sony’s lineup across mid-range and entry-level segments.

The WH-1000XM4C arrives as a second-generation take on the fan-favorite XM4 design, which Sony previously discontinued. Reports from The Verge and Engadget note that the company is bringing the model back with updates, while CNET highlights improved sound quality and the inclusion of Bluetooth 6.0 support. The new headphones are positioned as a direct successor to the original XM4, which had built a strong following for its noise-cancelling performance and comfort.

Sony’s decision to revive the XM4 name comes as the company continues to balance its premium WH-1000XM5 line with more accessible options. The WH-CH730N and WH-CH530 are aimed at buyers who want Sony’s wireless audio features without the flagship price tag, according to the company’s official press release. The move suggests Sony is trying to capture a wider range of customers, from those seeking high-end noise cancellation to budget-conscious listeners.

The WH-1000XM4C is now available for pre-order or purchase at $299, depending on the retailer, per 9to5Google. Pricing and availability for the WH-CH730N and WH-CH530 were not detailed in the initial reports.

With the XM4C now on shelves, the next question is how it will compare to the current XM5 flagship in real-world testing, especially given the lower price point and updated Bluetooth standard.
